We stayed for 4 nights from March 30 to April 2.It is a nice place with good rooms. The front lawn is large and well maintained, ideal for sitting out in the evening. On the last day a herd of sambhar deer came right into the premises in the night and would not go away.I was able to photograph them. But the washrooms are very small and need better maintenance. The cistern of room no 102 was malfunctioning. It was repaired promptly. The manager Mr BL Meena and the staff is very polite, helpful and good. The only drawback was the food.It was stale and not freshly cooked. The pasta for breakfast and aloo gobhi for dinner was served every day. This certainly needs to be looked into. Do buy the mugs from the souvenir shop inside. They are priced at 200 rs each and make a good gift item.Ensure that they have the Ranthambore print on them.

We chose RTDC Vinayak for our 2 night stay in Ranthambore, considering its location, which is quite near to the booking office. However, there are so many other good things to say about this property, apart from the location. We were given rooms on the ground floor - the rooms were quite spacious, with all toiletries provided. The only thing I felt they should have added is an electric kettle in the room, because during winters, you do need hot water to drink. We used to request for hot water in the restaurant, and they promptly responded to the same every time. The food was quite delicious - every item had a distinct taste, rotis were served hot, the kheer they prepared on the 1st night was awesome. The lunch buffet did not have any non-veg items, but they did serve chicken for dinner. There was a Rajasthani folk item presented in the evening by local artists, alongside some bonfire, which added the cultural touch. The lawn is pretty big with some swings for children to play. Since the property shares boundary with the buffer zone, we sighted some deer across the wall and a big number of peacocks which used to come across to the hotel grounds for food in the early morning. we also sighted other birds and monkeys. Overall, a very good experience at this hotel.

Grumpy manager, below standard tents

We intended to stay in Jhoomar Baori, but unfortunately it was closed for renovation. Had to choose this one as I intended to stay close to forest. Most of the other so-called forest resorts are in the opposite side of the road, so no chance of having any proximity with forest. This one at least shares the boundary with buffer zone, and we could see spotted deers, peacocks, Sambhar deers just on the other side of the wall. But make no mistake, this one is not located within forest (unlike Jhoomar Baori), it just shares the boundary. Took 10 minutes to reach from Sawai Madhopur railway station by auto. Unfortunately, the current manager there was quite grumpy. He seem to get irritated too easily. We had our safaris booked in advance and requested for pick-ups, which he confirmed over phone could be done. When I approached him for the same, he told there was an additional charge from forest department on top of the online charges. I enquired if there was a receipt from the department. He lost his cool on this and said if I need a receipt, I can go to Shilpgram office. Not sure why he is at reception front desk if he can't handle a valid question politely. Then he allotted us a tent (tent no. 9) whose geyser was not working. When I later went to complain, he went into CBI mode asking all sort of irrelevant questions. Ultimately they were not able to fix the issue and I have to bear with it throughout my stay. On enquiring if a-la-carte was available for lunch, he refused straightaway. He said only option available is buffet, take it or leave it. A hotel can have a policy for meals, but surely there's a polite way to communicate with customers. Other big issue was the tent - it was unsuitable for night stay as it had too many open spaces which was leaking chilly wind throughout the night. With no room heater, at times, we felt we were sleeping on the open field. On the positive side, food was good. Buffet meals were adequate. But with these kind of managers, you are sure to leave with a bitter taste.

A Two-night trip to Ranthambhore National Park

We wanted to stay in one of the "Swiss" Tents, though good rooms were available. The tents are good, but maintenance is not quite up to the mark. Some toiletries were provided. The location was good, the lawn was beautiful and the Manger and his staff were extremely helpful. They arranged for one of our safaris at our request before arrival. They did not charge anything extra. The hotel also arranged for a vehicle for our trip to the fort after the safaris were over, and for dropping us off at the Railway Station. The hotel had started a bar a few weeks before our arrival but the stock, when we were there, was extremely limited.

RTDC Vinayak Hotel is situated on the Ranthambore road and it is very close to the Shilpgram safari booking office. The whole team gave a very warm welcome and took care of all the necessary requirements. Rooms and toilets are spick and span. The in-house restaurant served us freshly-prepared tasty meals. The Manager helped us arrange the boarding pass for the pre-booked jungle safaris. This property of RTDC is highly recommended for budget travelers at Ranthambore.
